by Nick Gisburne
He shivers as the needle breaks the skin
Delivering a poison to the vein
A freezing metamorphosis within
Contorts him as he wrestles with the pain
Celebrate the psychedelic strange
Twisting through the disconnected dark
Grip the courage you are given
As you try to taste the change
Every sinew craves a signal or a spark
But the medicine of madness leaves a mark
The venom cruises quickly to the heart
It slithers through the doorway of his soul
A liquid, artificial work of art
At once destroys his life, but makes him whole
Celebrate the psychedelic strange
Twisting through the disconnected dark
Grip the courage you are given
As you try to taste the change
Every sinew craves a signal or a spark
But the medicine of madness leaves a mark
A citizen, a measured, modern man
Surrenders, on his knees, and sails away
Addiction wasn’t part of any plan
He never sees the price that he will pay
A thousand warnings tell him to beware
Exhausted by the pain
He taps to find a vein
Whatever happens now he doesn’t care
The nothingness he needs is always there
Celebrate the psychedelic strange
Twisting through the disconnected dark
Grip the courage you are given
As you try to taste the change
Every sinew craves a signal or a spark
But the medicine of madness leaves a mark
For now he finds the place he needs to be
In a mind he cannot shape
Each injection brings escape
He is pounded by a pain he cannot see
He will never taste the change
But the psychedelic strange sets him free
