The Promise of Peace

by Nick Gisburne

The deal is done, the signatures still wet
A peace, a promise, nothing can betray
The scars will not be easy to forget
But let us lock our bitterness away
The years of war were tragic, lethal, long
Vendetta, cold and callous, raw and real
With this, our plan, our purpose, we are strong
United, light with darkness, stone with steel
Let centuries of struggle disappear
As one, the possibilities are vast
The path to hope and harmony is clear
A future forged together, here, at last
Before the final signatures are dry
We find the peace, the promise, is a lie
